The intestinal system features the colon (or bowel)-a muscular organ about five feet long. The colon extracts water from the waste matter and sends it back into the bloodstream. Nerves and muscles in the colon regulate the time it takes waste matter to travel through the colon and out of the body. Friendly bacteria in the bowel aid in the breakdown of waste.
Colon health is largely affected by diet. We eat more sugar and processed foods than ever before, and we regularly abuse our bodies with various stimulants and sedatives. In addition, we are all exposed to thousands of toxins and chemicals on a daily basis (air and water pollution, cleaning products, cosmetics, etc.). All of this impacts bowel health and function.
Stress and lack of muscle tone can also affect colon function.
For health and well-being, it is essential that this “sewer system” of the body receives regular cleaning and preventative care.
Transit Time-Too Long—Occasional constipation occurs when waste material stays in the colon too long and too much water is absorbed from it. Toxins can also be reabsorbed into the bloodstream.
Too Short—Occasional diarrhea occurs when waste goes through the bowel too quickly and not enough water is absorbed. Beneficial gut bacteria may be lost.
Bowel Detox provides digestive enzymes to aid digestion in the upper gastrointestinal tract, as well as ingredients to provide needed bulk to encourage proper flow of waste through the colon.
Nature’s Three fiber supplement combines psyllium, oat fiber and apple fiber to support the normal function of the bowel. Fiber binds with cholesterol and bile salts and helps reduce the amount of cholesterol in the blood, which helps maintain cholesterol levels that are already within
normal limits. It can also reduce transit time.
Bifidophilus Flora Force® provides 4 billion friendly bacteria per capsule to help create favorable balance in the gut. These good guys help with digestion and promote immunity.
Liquid Chlorophyll provides green energy and helps cleanse and freshen the bowel and body.
The liver plays vital roles in digestion, metabolism and the elimination of toxins from the body. Our largest organ produces bile to aid in the digestion of fats. Bile also helps eliminate excess cholesterol and toxins.
The liver stores and processes nutrients, including excess carbohydrates (as glycogen). When blood sugar levels drop, sugar is released by the liver to bring levels back up. Your liver also makes cholesterol to transport fats to and from body cells.
The liver is the primary detoxification center, breaking down metabolic waste and environmental toxins so they can be eliminated. As it filters the blood (over a liter of it each minute), the liver removes toxins and microbes from the body before they can damage cells. Chemicals in the body attach to cholesterol and are transported to the liver. Toxins are then eliminated through normal waste-removal channels.
A healthy liver can process heavy metals, cleaning solvents, gasoline fumes and toxic household cleaning products. But these can severely tax or overwhelm a dysfunctional liver.
The Hepatic Pack includes one bottle each of these products:
Milk Thistle Combination boasts liver-protecting and free-radical fighting ingredients, including milk thistle seed extract, N-Acetyl-Cysteine (NAC), dandelion root, choline bitartrate and inositol. NAC optimizes the production of glutathione in the liver, which is used in the breakdown and elimination of toxins. NAC, a powerful antioxidant, protects against oxidative damage. Milk thistle contains silymarin, which has shown remarkable ability to help liver cells regenerate and stabilize liver cell membranes.
Chinese Liver Balance TCM is a “harmonizing” Chinese formula that helps cleanse the liver, nourish the blood, improve digestive function and promote detoxification and elimination. It contains 12 Chinese herbs, including scute, peony, bupleurum and atractylodes—used traditionally to support both the nervous and digestive systems during tension and stress.
Nature’s Three contains various forms of soluble and insoluble fiber—psyllium, oat fiber and apple fiber—to support digestive health, promote
regularity and relieve occasional constipation. Increasing your dietary fiber can help the liver as fiber binds with toxins for removal.
Love Your Liver!
Did You Know?
• The liver affects nearly every physiological process of the body and performs over 500 different chemical functions.
• According to Eastern philosophies, anger, irritability, defensiveness, moodiness and discouragement are all associated with a congested or sluggish liver.
The process of digestion begins in the mouth and is completed in the large intestine. It occurs as food is taken in, broken down, sorted and re-processed—all in an effort to convert it into a usable, absorbable form that can be circulated throughout the body to nourish cells and create energy.
The major organs of the digestive system include the mouth, esophagus, stomach, liver, pancreas, gallbladder, small intestine and colon. Each of these organs works in a unique way, but they share a common purpose: to help digest food and absorb nutrients. These exist in the form of carbohydrates, proteins and fats. Each nutrient type is handled by the digestive system differently, and each gets broken down at a different point during the digestive process; but all are aided by the presence of enzymes.
Digestive enzymes are organic substances that speed up the chemical reactions that break food down into smaller, more usable particles. Without enzymes, body functions would happen too slowly to sustain life. Some enzymes are produced by the body, and others come from the foods we eat. This system is subject to many weaknesses and inadequacies.
These include digestive transit times that may be too fast or too slow, a lack of sufficient enzymes and probiotics, and a deficiency of hydrochloric acid in the stomach. Luckily, we can combat these through diet, exercise, adequate water and fiber intake, regular detoxification and supplementation.
Since there are more organs in your digestive system than in any other, it makes sense to support them with quality supplements.
The Digestive Pack from Nature’s Sunshine combines one each of these products:
Food Enzymes provides a blend of the enzymes needed to break down proteins, carbohydrates and fats, as well as hydrochloric acid and bile salts to aid the digestive process. These enzymes can also help prevent or relieve occasional indigestion.
Bifidophilus Flora Force® is recommended for daily use to maintain a healthy balance of friendly flora within the intestinal tract. These beneficial microorganisms help the body break down food into easily absorbed nutrients and they promote immunity.
Gastro Health® Concentrate offers nutritional support for the stomach. The ingredients in this proprietary formula may help inhibit the growth of unwanted invaders. In addition, Gastro Health can help soothe stomach irritations and relieve occasional associated stomach discomfort.

Women have special needs. Their bodies go through cycles and changes from puberty through the senior years. While these changes are indeed miraculous, they aren’t always comfortable. Nature’s Sunshine has formulated three new herbal products to address some of women’s unique needs.
Cramp Relief—Relax those cramping muscles
Most women experience some degree of cramping during their monthly periods. For some women, menstrual cramps can be so severe that they are debilitating. Cramp Relief allows the body to relax contracted muscles and ease cramping.
Native Americans used the herbs in Cramp Relief to help ease all kinds of female discomfort. They believed that menstrual cramping was the body’s way of preparing for childbirth. However, in the case of severe cramps they used these antispasmodic herbs. Cramp Relief contains cramp bark, wild yam, black cohosh, lobelia and plantain. Most of these herbs are antispasmodic, and many of them support various body systems to help in the management of menstrual discomfort. Wild yam supports the female reproductive system. Black cohosh acts like estrogen and can help lift dark moods that often accompany female discomfort. Plantain helps relieve fluid buildup in the pelvic region that is sometimes associated with menstrual cramps.
Breast Enhance—A natural alternative for breast enhancement
Many women resort to high-risk surgical procedures to obtain shapely, firm breasts. However, breast augmentation is expensive and carries some weighty health risks. A less invasive, less risky and less expensive natural alternative exists and is available from Nature’s Sunshine.
Breast Enhance naturally enhances breast size and firmness. It contains kudzu, saw palmetto berries, dong quai extract and alfalfa. These herbs not only help enhance breast size, they may actually promote breast health as well as help maintain already-normal hormone balance, boost vitality levels, promote fertility and ease female discomfort.
Breast Enhance contains phytoestrogenic isoflavones (including genistein), vitamins and phytosterols. Studies show that isoflavone supplementation can increase the proliferation rate of breast lobular epithelium after 14 days of use. Isoflavones have been shown to mimic the hormones principally responsible for growth of breast tissue.
Breast Enhance can help women achieve the look they want without expensive and risky surgeries, while nourishing the body with the nutrition it needs to maintain breast health.
Menstrual Reg—Help for heavy menstruation
Heavy menstrual bleeding isn’t just inconvenient, it is also quite uncomfortable, especially when it is accompanied by cramping, bloating and mild mood changes. Menstrual Reg is designed to help reduce heavy bleeding while keeping hormones balanced.
Menstrual Reg contains several herbs that diminish bleeding and provide overall support to the female body. Yarrow, shepherd’s purse, nettle leaf and lady’s mantle help to slow and reduce blood flow, while sarsaparilla gets closer to the root of the process. Excessive menstrual bleeding is often caused by too much estrogen relative to progesterone. Sarsaparilla root appears to help enhance progesterone activity. Black haw can help ease cramped uterine muscles, while chaste tree and false unicorn help to support proper female hormone levels. Together these herbs may slow menstrual flow and lead to more comfortable periods.
